Summer 2014 Internships in Regulatory Economics

The Department of Economics at the University of Calgary is pleased to announce this call for applications for summer 2014. Students interested in pursuing summer employment opportunities in regulatory economics and industrial organization are invited to submit applications. The placements are typically full time for four months (May through August).  Duties, remuneration, and length of placement are typically negotiated with the sponsoring firm/organization. Firms and organizations that have participated in this program since its inception in 2000 include Alliance Pipeline, Department of Energy (Alberta), Capital Power, Alberta's Market Surveillance Administrator (Electricity), ENMAX, Enbridge, EPCOR, Kinder Morgan, the National Energy Board, TransCanada Energy and TransCanada Pipelines, the Alberta Utilities Commission, and the Utilities Consumer Advocate.

Student Eligibility
Prior to accepting an internship, students must complete Econ 471 (Industrial Organization) and Econ 477 (Regulatory Economics). Experience with Excel (Econ 311) and completion of Econ 495 (Econometrics) and Econ 571 (Competition Policy) are recommended. Students must have
finished at least three years of study, with a grade point average of at least 3.00 in the required/recommended courses and over their last 15 half courses.

Note 1:  This program is not part of a Univeristy of Calgary Degree Program.  Students must be able to work off campus.

Note 2:  Please indicate in your application if you will be enrolled in a post-secondary course of studies in the Fall of 2014.  It can be your present program, grad school, law school, etc.
