2019-2020 Bank of Canada’s Governor’s Challenge

 The University of Calgary team, Jordan Bartsch, Korbin Ducharme, Brandon Hodge, Tyrell Jaques, Ryan Sartori, and Jacob Graham, with the Governor of the Bank of Canada, Stephen Poloz, at the final round of this year’s Bank of Canada’s Governor’s Challenge at the Bank of Canada’s headquarters in Ottawa.

 Under the leadership of Coach Serletis and Assistant Coach Dery, our team was one of five teams that competed in the final round.  This involved an all-expense paid trip to Ottawa to give a presentation on the economic outlook for Canada and make a monetary policy recommendation to a panel of senior central bank officials.

This was the first year our team made the final round of five.  The  competition began on November 20, 2019 with an initial round of presentations by video conference involving more than 100 students from 24 Canadian universities.

 If you are interested inparticipating in the 2020-2021 Bank of Canada's Governor's Challenge, please let Professor Serletis ( or the team leader, Zoe Laurich (, know as soon as possible. Preparations will start in early September, with meetings every Monday from 8:00 to 9:00 am in SS423. The first round of presentations is by Skype in November, 2020 and the national round event will be held in February, 2021 at the Bank of Canada head office in Ottawa.

Students who participate in the Governor’s Challenge may add the experience to their co-curricular record (CCR), a system that tracks extra-curricular activities that students would like to show on their “official record” to showcase to future employers, graduate schools, etc.
