Lucija Muehlenbachs

Lucija Muehlenbachs joined the department in 2014.  Her research focuses on energy-related topics.  Her dissertation was a structural estimation of the dynamic decision to plug and abandon Albertan oil wells. 

Her current research interests lie in financial assurance of environmental liability, public disclosure of environmental violations, impacts of shale gas development, fossil fuel use in the electricity industry, and methane emissions from local distribution companies.  

Lucija grew up in Edmonton, Alberta and graduated from the University of Alberta in 2002.  She received her Ph.D. in agricultural and resource economics in 2009 at the University of Maryland.   Before joining the University of Calgary, she was a fellow at Resources for the Future, one of the leading research institutes focusing on environmental economics.
