Dr. Brown is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Alberta. His research is primarily in the fields of Energy Economics and Industrial Organization. His recent research projects investigate the optimal design of electricity retail tariffs in the presence of a growing penetration of demand-side management resources such as distributed generation in the form of residential solar panels, demand response, and energy efficiency. In addition, he empirically investigates the performance of restructured wholesale electricity markets by measuring the degree of market power execution in electricity procurement auctions.
